MEMORIAL COMPLEX FOR THE VICTIMS OF KOEPENICK BLOOD WEEK

Stop, look out, continue. Competition entry for a memorial complex for Köpenick Blood Week. 34 sets of labeled traffic lights were installed at the intersections of park paths. Berlin / Köpenick, 2002. Conventional traffic lights regulate the flow of traffic through colored signals. I used these colors as symbols and to display statements, and classified red, yellow, and green as past, present, and future, respectively.
DENKMALANLAGE FÜR DIE OPFER DER BLUTWOCHE
At the five entrances to the main paths, traffic lights were set up, with the color-word associations shown below; for visitors, these acted as a "legend" or key for the interpretation of the time periods shown in the memorial as system. The words appear alternately as opposites on the red and green lights, and every pair of opposites is repeated in the system twice. The yellow circles remain empty, thus leaving room for the viewer´s own thoughts.
